St. Thekla Orthodox Church, a new mission in the greater Houston area, has bought a property that it’s now converting into its new church.
The mission closed on the purchase on Friday afternoon, according to a post on its Facebook page. Parishioners turned out in large numbers the next day for the first work day, starting repairs and beautification on the mission’s future home.

For now, the community’s spiritual life continues at its current location, 2201 Thompson Rd. in Richmond, Texas.
St. Thekla’s is led by Fr. Joseph Hazar. The mission was planted by St. Joseph Orthodox Church in Houston, which has been around since 1993 and is led by Fr. Joseph Honeycutt.

As a growing mission, St. Thekla’s is in need of prayers and financial assistance to convert its new property, for liturgical items, and for outreach. Donations can be made on the mission’s website at https://sttheklaorthodox.org/wishlist.
