The Russian Orthodox Church will now celebrate the uncovering of the relics of St. Dmitry Donskoy every year, after the Holy Synod added a new commemoration to the Church calendar today.

In its decision, the Synod orders that the uncovering of the relics of the holy Right-Believing Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy be included in the Churchwide calendar on August 5/18, reports Patriarchia.ru.

The Synodal Liturgical Commission will submit the text of a service for that day to the Holy Synod for approval.

On August 18, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia led the solemn uncovering of the saint’s relics in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. The relics were opened during restoration work on his tomb.

Several particles of the saint’s relics were placed in reliquaries for the faithful to venerate, while the main part of the relics was returned to the burial place.
