Hieromonk Savvatey, abbot of St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki Monastery, currently in Framingham, Massachusetts, says the community is hoping “very soon” to start receiving guests at its new property in Rumney, New Hampshire.

In a late October update to the faithful, Hieromonk Savvatey says the restoration is moving forward step by step, thanks to the prayers, generosity and financial support of benefactors. The monastery belongs to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchal Parishes in the USA.

According to the update, the monastery has restored its essential systems, including plumbing, septic and heating, and repaired the damage left by last winter’s freezing temperatures. Work is now turning to the interior, where insulation and drywall will go in to replace walls and ceilings that had to be torn out, and restoration of several smaller buildings is nearly finished.

Two larger projects are planned next: extending the main chapel to make room for a proper altar area, and repairing the roof of the trapeza, the monastery refectory.

Looking back at the property’s condition not long ago, Hieromonk Savvatey says, the community is deeply grateful for what’s been done.

In the update, the abbot says all of this has been possible through God’s mercy and through the prayers, financial support, materials and personal labor of the faithful.

The community hopes to begin receiving guests soon.

At the same time, much work remains, particularly the interior restoration, the chapel extension and the trapeza roof.

See the monastery website for more information about how to support this ongoing project.
