His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Forth Worth has been elected as the next Bishop of Dallas and the South for the Orthodox in America.

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the OCA met today at St. Vladimir’s Seminary in Yonkers, New York, under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada, canonically electing Bishop Gerasim as the next Bishop of the South, the OCA reports.

It is notable that he was elected on the feast of St. Gabriel of Georgia, whom Bishop Gerasim met in 1991.

Bishop Gerasim was consecrated as Bishop of Fort Worth, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of the South on June 29, 2021. He has served as Locum Tenens of the diocese since the retirement of His Eminence Archbishop Alexander as Bishop of the South in July of this year. On July 24, Bishop Gerasim was nominated by the diocese to be its next ruling hierarch.

In a letter to the clergy of the Diocese of the South, Metropolitan Tikhon directed that Bishop Gerasim is to be commemorated immediately as Bishop of the South at all services.

His enthronement will take place at St. Seraphim Cathedral in Dallas on November 14.
