Publication of Volume on Greek Orthodox Churches in New England released

May 14, 2011

The Boston Metropolis has recently published a deluxe edition of a volume called “Record of All Greek Orthodox Churches in New England.” The foreword of this historical publication has been written by Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, who thouroughly addresses the issue on “Why we should be interested in the History of our Metropolis and Parishes.” “Reading through the text, one is impressed with what the founders accomplished, and comes to appreciate the sacrifices made, so that Orthodoxy and Hellenism not only survive, but prosper in New England and throughout America,” mentions Metropolitan Methodios on the preface.

Scholar Father George Dragas, has written a detailed history of the Boston Metropolis, mentioning its church leaders through time.

It is important to note that special reference is made to the Holy Cross Theological School, an incubator for young Orthodox Theologians and Priests in the States, based in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Furthermore, the initiative of the Metropolitan of Boston, Methodios, is to establish “Philoxenia,” a care home for patients coming for Greece to receive treatment. The “Center of Faith and Heritage of St. Methodios”, is also among the praiseworthy activities of the Metropolis.

A detailed tour of the Greek Orthodox Churches and Communities throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhodes Island and Vermont, depicts the pulse of the Greek Community, faithful to religious traditions in New England.

Finally, the volume includes rich photographic material of churches and institutions of the Boston Metropolis and the publication is sponsored by Margo and George Behrakis.
