The opening of the exhibition "Two Baptisms of Russia" has taken place on Tuesday, June 25, at 11.00 in the Moscow underground, at the "Vystavochnaya" metro station.
The exhibition "Two Baptisms of Rus" is devoted to 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia and the 25th year since restoration of Church life began in Russia.
The exhibition was organized by the Russian Orthodox Church's Synodal Department of Information, the Orthodox journal Foma,and the Moscow metropolitan subway.
Igor Vladimirovich, the vice-chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church's Synodal Department of Information and Pogonin Vladimir Vasilievich, the Deputy Chief of Metro Property and Land Relations and Communications took part in the opening ceremony.
In July 2013, in the capitals of three countries, Moscow, Kiev and Minsk, celebrations dedicated to 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia are to be opened. Religious representatives also fell that it is appropriate to mention one more anniversary: the 25th year since the beginning of restoration Church life. A quarter of a century ago, from the time of the national celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia in 1988, restoration of Church life on the territory of the Soviet Union began. People began to speak of Orthodoxy out loud; churches and monasteries were gradually opened, restored and revived. The changes proved to be so considerable that this process was called the second Baptism of Russia.
The photographers participating in the exhibition tell in their works of the most memorable moments of the epoch which they call "the second Baptism of Rus".
Modern as well as unique archival photographs of late 1980s–early 90s are represented at the exhibition.
The exposition will be open to visitors from June 25 till September 10 during the subway’s working hours. Admission is free.
