Cross procession by air: St Petersburg - Novosibirsk - Moscow

St. Petersburg, August 5, 2013

An airplane with an icon of St. Alexander Nevsky on board flew a St Petersburg - Novosibirsk - Moscow route with stopovers at military airbases, where solemn services were celebrated, reported the Western military district press service chief Oleg Kochetkov to Interfax.

"In addition to services, events devoted to the 100th anniversary since the birth of Alexander Pokryshkin (a famed Russian WWII fighter pilot) were held at military and civil airfields where the plane with the icon landed," he said.

The air Cross procession started on Friday. By the same evening the Cross procession participants arrived to Novosibirsk. On August 4, the plane landed at the Kubinka airfield in the Moscow region.

The event is timed to coincide with the 1025th anniversary of Baptism of Russia and the 100th birth anniversary of triple Soviet Union hero, ace pilot A.Pokryshkin.
