In this video, Abbot Damascene recounts how he met Fr. Seraphim Rose and the spiritual advice he received from him until Fr. Seraphim's untimely death, as well as the veneration of Fr. Seraphim by pilgrims from around the world, and he recounts a miraculous appearance of Fr. Seraphim that led to a Pentecostal man converting to Orthodoxy and eventually becoming a priest.

"I think he was probably the closest we will ever get to seeing or knowing someone like St. John or St. John of Kronstadt who was also a whole person. I think there are just so few of us in the Church, much less outside of the Church. We’re just very broken and wounded in this culture and in this society. And so it was wonderful to see someone who was healed because he just accepted everything, believed it and did it."

On Wednesday, the fourth day of the annual Nativity readings began the conference section dedicated to the «Orthodox understanding of creation of the world». One of the speakers was an Orthodox hieromonk, Fr. Damascene (Christensen), an American from the Monastery of St. Herman of Alaska in Platina, California, which belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Western America. This monastery is well known in Russia as the home of Fr. Seraphim Rose, its founder, and Fr. Damascene is a member of the Brotherhood from the time of Fr. Seraphim’s repose. He is the author Fr. Seraphim’s biography (due to appear in a new Russian version this year under the title Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works), and is something of an expert on Fr. Seraphim’s Life and writings in general.

Through the prayers of Father Seraphim Rose my life was radically transformed from one of a pot grower to Catechism, Baptism, and now serving God to the best of my ability. I went into an Orthodox bookstore in Santa Rosa, CA - Not of the World Icons - and purchased a book called "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future" by Father Seraphim Rose. I began reading it, learned the Jesus Prayer, then that weekend I went to Saturday night vigil at Holy Dormition Orthodox Church, and Liturgy on Sunday morning, then was invited to go to St. Herman of Alaska Monastery the next day, so I went and stayed for a week. While there my obedience was to work at the grave of Father Seraphim. Glory to God.

Father Seraphim, pray to the Lord for us!

Fr Serafim Rose was responsible for my conversion from ''orthodox christianity'' to Orthodoxy Christianity i.e. conversion from being your typical Greek in the diaspora who is completely clueless about anything that has to do with the Church other than to be Orthodox because you're Greek, to one who realises just how serious the spiritual life really has to be taken. It's little wonder he is so despised by so many Amerikan konvertsie in his native homeland - because Truth is uncomfortable for them. They only want the shallow, superficial Good News! of the Resurrection without the Crucifixion. However, that matters not one bit - he is much beloved in our Greek Homeland as well as in (so I hear) Mother Russia who regard him as one of their own. May God rest his soul in His Kingdom.

I enjoyed the video very much. Fr. Seraphim Rose was my godfather and he was also my son archpriest Alexander's godfather. Fr. Seraphim Rose is the one that taught me my Orthodoxy. That was over 51 yrs ago.
