Fr. John Guy Winfrey
I am a firm believer that Orthodox Christianity, at its best, is local. The word local may be troubling to some, but let me assure you that I do not have in mind local in the sense of congregationalism.

Go out into this world and try to see beyond its darkness. Try to look behind the present wickedness and sin which are so prevalent and set up before our eyes. Look carefully and you will see persons. They come in all shapes and sizes. They are all wounded, just as we are all wounded. They bear the potential of being transfigured into radiant images of the Light of Christ, just as we do. They each have the potential of being brought into the divine Body of Christ and changed into Saints.

The hierarchs, clergy, and vast majority of Orthodox Christians are quite clear on the issue of marriage as a sacred institution, consisting of one man and one woman. But because of the opportunity for anyone to post an opinion on the internet without going into detail about their own standing in the Church, other articles also occasionally need to be posted to explain what is really going on. Here is one blog post by Fr. John Guy Winfrey of the Antiochian Archdiocese of America, with some original thoughts on the nature of things.
