Construction on Russia’s first Orthodox medical-social and spiritual-education center will begin in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

The center will become part of the whole “House of Mercy” complex, with the main architectural structure being the Church of St. Basil the Great, reports the official St. Petersburg Administration website.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by the abbot of the Holy Trinity-St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra, His Grace Bishop Nazary of Kronstadt, and other representatives of the city authorities.

The Orthodox medical-social and spiritual-educational center “House of Mercy” is a federal project that will implement the accumulated experience of joint social service work between the Russian Church and the state.

“House of Mercy” will include the Church of St. Basil the Great and the building of the medical-social center.
