Kirov, Russia, July 16, 2018
A new monument to the holy Royal Martyrs has been consecrated in time for the 100th anniversary of their martyrdom, which the Church will celebrate tomorrow.
The new monument is on the grounds of St. Seraphim’s Cathedral in Kirov, Russia, 600 miles northwest of Moscow. The monument was created at the initiative of the local residents and consecrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Vyatka and Sloboda, reports the site of the Vyatka Diocese.
During the ceremony, Met. Mark noted that the Royal Passion-Bearers accepted their fate at the hands of their murders with “honor and dignity.”
“Condemning no one, they accepted this death with humility, showing to all an example of piety and purity, honor and dignity, sharing in the fate of their people and subjects in the hardest times of the bloody bacchanalia,” Vladyka Mark reflected.
The metropolitan also recalled that the Royal Martyrs stopped in Vyatka on their way to the final days in Ekaterinburg, and therefore the installation of such a monument in the city is no accident.
The ceremony was followed by a spiritual concert, “Holy Rus’, Preserve the Orthodox Faith.” Many lined up to honor the Royal Martyrs under festive bell-ringing.
The faithful noted that the celebration at the cathedral was illuminated by the sun despite it being a cloudy day. Heavy rains began just a few minutes after the service ended, as if blessing the good deed.
