His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, the primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, held a pastoral meeting over the weekend, visiting children who had lost their parents in the ongoing military conflict in Donbass.

The primatial visitation came during a 20-day vacation that had been arranged for the children with Met. Onuphry’s blessing, reports the site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The children had the chance to visit the Monastery of the Athonite Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Chopovichi, 78 miles northwest of Kiev, and to relax in a summer camp under the care of the Sisterhood of St. Juliana Olshanskaya. Other trips and events in Kiev were also arranged for the children.

His Beatitude met with the orphans and Sisters of Mercy in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kiev Caves Lavra. The metropolitan met with the children, gave gifts to each one, and blessed them on their way back to Kramatorsk, in Donbass.

The Ukrainian primate also met with orphans on the feasts of the Nativity and Pascha.
