Patriarch Kirill to visit Constantinople in late August

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will travel to Constantinople to visit His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on August 31, reports the site of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The two primates last met at the meeting of the primates of the autocephalous Orthodox Churches held in Chambésy, Switzerland January 22-27, 2016.

They have also met several other times, at various meetings of the primates and during personal visits to one another’s Churches.

The agenda for the upcoming meeting is currently being worked out, according to Fr. Nikolai Balashov, the Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations.

With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, a delegation from the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate had an audience with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and a delegation from his Church on Saturday.

Speaking at the St. George Cathedral in Constantinople on Monday, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew addressed the ongoing issues surrounding the schismatic Ukrainian and Macedonian churches, stating that it is the role of his office to bring those nations back to canonical communion in the Church.

At its session on May 25 at the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church adopted an address to the bishops, clergy, monastics, and laity regarding the initiative for “providing a tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.”
