A general meeting of the clergy and monastics of the Poltava Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held yesterday under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan Philip of Poltava and Mirgorod.

The participants discussed a number of topical issues in Church life, in particular, the crisis situation in Ukrainian ecclesiastical life.

As the site of the Poltava Diocese reports, the assembly adopted a unanimous decision to recognize the existing canonical status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as the most optimal in the current conditions.

The hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took the same stance at their June 25 meeting, where they declared that their “existing canonical status is quite sufficient for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to fruitfully carry out its mission among the people of Ukraine.”

The participants also unanimously expressed their support for the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.

OrthoChristian has previously reported that the dioceses of Dnipropetrovsk, Krivoy Rog, Kamenka, Zaporozhye, and Odessa have also shown their support for the canonical Church and their beloved hierarch Met. Onuphry.
