Vinnitsa, Ukraine, December 18, 2018
A crowd of clergy and faithful came out to greet their new archpastor at the Church of the Exaltation of the Life-giving Cross in Vinnitsa, Ukraine today.
His Eminence Archbishop Barsanuphius (Stolyar) of Vinnitsa and Bar, formerly of Borodianka—a vicariate of the Kiev Metropolitanate—was appointed by the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church yesterday to replace Simeon Shostasky, a former metropolitan who abandoned the Church of Christ and attended Saturday’s schismatic “unification council,” thus joining Ukraine’s new nationalist church.
Abp. Barsanuphius was solemnly greeted with the celebration of a moleben outside the church. The people joyfully received their new hierarch’s blessing after he addressed them with an archpastoral word.
