The next session of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church will be held at the Patriarchate on Thursday under the chairmanship of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, December 27, reports InterPressNews.

According to Patriarchal Secretary Archpriest Michael Botkoveli, this will be the second Holy Synod session this year and will discuss important issues that have accumulated over the past few months.

“Of course, we can’t avoid the ecclesiastical questions of Ukraine,” Fr. Michael said.

The Georgian Church posted a statement in late September saying that the situation in Ukraine is very delicate and thus it needed to be worked out between the Patriarchates of Moscow and Constantinople. While Moscow has repeatedly said it is prepared to dialogue with Constantinople, Constantinople has repeatedly rejected this proposal.
