The primate of the nationalist schismatic Ukrainian church placed Poroshenko among the greatest rulers in Ukrainian history during his speech at today’s tomos signing ceremony in Istanbul.

Patriarch Bartholomew signed the tomos of autocephaly for the new Ukrainian church today and will grant it to “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko tomorrow during the Divine Liturgy.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Dumenko declared that Poroshenko will go down in history next to the Great Equal-to-the-Apostles St. Vladimir:

“Your name, Mr. President, will forever go down in the history of the Ukrainian people and Church next to the names of our rulers the Princes Vladimir the Great, Yaroslav the Wise, Konstantin of Ostrozhsk, and Hetman Ivan Mazepa,” Dumenko declared at the ceremony, broadcast live on Ukrainian television.

In such an atmosphere, the signing ceremony ended with a shout of “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”

This is not the first time that Ukrainian nationalist hierarchs have compared Poroshenko to the man responsible for the conversion of Rus’ to Christ. At a meeting with the President in October, Constantinople Exarch to Kiev Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton told Poroshenko that his spiritual contribution to the Ukrainian people put his name in golden letters in Ukrainian history with Sts. Vladimir and Yaroslav the Wise.
