Lahore, Pakistan, February 1, 2019

For the first time ever, the text of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom has been translated into Urdu, the official language of Pakistan, and one of 22 official languages in India.

The Liturgy was translated from Church Slavonic and English texts by Fr. Paul and Matushka Elizabeth Sushil who serve in the Moscow Patriarchate at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Lahore, Pakistan and the Russian Orthodox Community in Islamabad. Fr. Paul holds a Bachelors of Theology from the Tomsk Theological Seminary in Russia.

In all, the translation took about two years to complete and was proofread by a theology teacher and Urdu experts.

The book will soon be printed and available to the public.

Other texts already translated into Urdu include a catechism by St. Nikolai Velimirovich, translated by Fr. Joseph Farooq, a prayer book, 300 Sayings of Ascetics, The Faith of the Chosen People by Presbytera Rosy Razia, and many other books
