In addition to celebrating the great luminary St. Gregory Palamas on the Second Sunday of Great Lent, the Russia Republic of Tuva in southeastern Siberia also had the joy of uniting several residents to Christ in the holy Sacrament of Baptism.
Bordering both China and Mongolia, the republic’s main religions are Buddhism and Shamanism in addition to holy Orthodoxy.

In the republic’s capital city of Kyzyl, which means “red” or “crimson” in the Tuvan language, seven people were accounted worthy to partake of the Lord’s Body and Blood by being baptized into His death and Resurrection, reports the Missionary Department of the Kyzyl Diocese.

The Sacrament was celebrated in Holy Trinity Cathedral by Fr. Alexei Parkachev.

Six others were also baptized in the Holy Spirit Church in Kyzyl on February 24 by Fr. Alexander Shleiko. One of the new Christians had just been released from a month-long stay in the hospital after being beaten for preaching Christ.
