Church of St. Paisios the Athonite consecrated in Belarus

A new church in honor of the great 20th-century Athonite elder St. Paisios was consecrated in Belarus yesterday.

His Eminence Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, celebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great and the consecration of the church in the city of Slutsk on the day of the commemoration of St. Sophia of Slutsk, reports the site of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

The foundation stone of the church was laid and blessed on October 2, 2016 on the day of the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the city of Slutsk.

His Eminence was concelebrated by His Grace Bishop Anthony of Slutsk and His Grace Bishop Ignaty of Borovlyansky, the vicars of the Minsk Diocese, the rector Hieromonk Arseny (Kanishka), clergy from the diocese, and other invited guests.

During the Small Entrance, Met. Pavel read out a decree awarding Hieromonk Arseny the right to wear the epigonation, considering his zealous labors for the glory of the Orthodox Church and in connection with the building of the church.

Following the Liturgy, Met. Pavel, presented Fr. Arseny with an altar Gospel gifted by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for the newly-consecrated church.
