Ukrainian priest repents of supporting schismatic church

A priest of the canonical Ukrainian Church in the Vinnitsa Province has repented of his previous support for the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU).

Speaking at the Mogilev-Podolsky diocesan council yesterday, His Eminence Metropolitan Agapit announced that Archpriest Alexander Barabash, the rector of the Church of the Apostle and Evangelist John in the village of Mirolyubovka in the Vinnitsa Province offered his repentance for trying to support the OCU, and together with his parishioners will remain in the canonical Church, reports the site of the Mogilev-Podolsky Diocese.

According to the bishop, on May 21, the day of the holy Apostle John the Theologian, he was invited by Fr. Alexander and the parishioners to celebrate the festal Liturgy at their parish. Before the start of the Divine Liturgy, the priest offered his repentance before the confessor of the Pischansky Deanery Archrpriest George Khvust for having supported the OCU.

In the conversation following the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Alexander assured Met. Agapit that the Church of St. John would remain within the canonical Ukrainian Church under the omophorion of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.
