His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia is in stable condition after being rushed to the hospital on August 29, just a day after his 89th birthday, reports telegraf.rs.
The Patriarch is continuing to undergo treatment at the Military Medical Academy. Recovery is underway and doctors expect that His Holiness will soon return to his regular duties.
Pat. Irinej regularly serves the Divine Liturgy and typically has several meetings a day and had been feeling unwell in the heat before he was taken to the hospital. He was admitted with a high fever.
According to the Serbian outlet Fight for the Faith, Pat. Irinej refused to see Metropolitan John (Zizioulas) of the Patriarchate of Constantinople during these days. OrthoChristian has been informed of the same from its own sources. It was previously reported that a delegation led by Met. John was intending to visit Pat. Irinej.
It is also reported that Pat. Irinej refused to attend the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Los Angeles where several Constantinople hierarchs, including Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
