The Russian government approves measures to develop the Solovetsky archipelago

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed an order on measures to preserve and develop the Solovetsky (Solovki) archipelago, the enumeration of which was prepared by the federal authorities and the government of the Arkhangelsk region, reports RIA-Novosti with reference to the website of the Russian Federation’s Government.

“The list includes modernization of the civil engineering, housing and communal and social infrastructure, and measures to preserve and develop the cultural and natural heritage of the Solovetsky archipelago,” the explanatory note to the document reads.

According to the decree the measures are to be implemented from 2016 to 2020. They include building and repairing monuments on the Solovetsky archipelago, restoring and preserving the archipelago’s cultural heritage and setting up a Federal nature reserve in the area.

The document also recommends that the Arkhangelsk regional administration should take part in implementing the measures and send quarterly reports on the results to the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation.
