Ukraine has created favorable conditions for religious extremists and practically legalized them, head of the State Committee on Interethnic Relations and Deported Citizens of Crimea Zaur Smirnov says.

"Today Ukraine is practically invaded by religious extremists of various kinds who have already been acting illegally for a long time. Unfortunately, we can witness to the fact that the Kiev regime protects these movements, gives them weapons, and strengthens them materially and technically," Smirnov said during a Moscow-Simferopol-Grozny video conference.

According to him, religious and extremist groups that are "practically legalized in Ukraine threaten the entire Eastern European region."

"We see that these radical, extremist groups of religious character grow and strengthen. We got rid of them in Crimea. We are building a new republic in this part," the official said.

He said that Ukraine shelters extremists who escaped from Crimea and the North Caucasus and "spares no effort to create the most favorable conditions for developing their harmful ideology."
