Thousands of residents of Kemerovo are appealing to Provincial Governor Aman Tuleev with a request to erect a chapel or to open a park on the site of the burnt-out Winter Cherry shopping mall, where dozens, and possibly hundreds, lost their lives in a blaze on Sunday, reports Foma.

“On March 25, 2018, in Kemerovo, in the Winter Cherry shopping mall, there was a fire that killed adults and children. We are asking you to dismantle the shopping center and erect a chapel or create a park with a monument to the people and children who perished during the fire,” reads the petition published on Change.org.

The petition has already been signed by 27,863 people, with a goal of 35,000.

Today has been declared a day of mourning throughout all of Russia, and a three-day mourning period has been declared in the Kemerovo Province. Panikhidas were also served today on behalf of the departed in parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church throughout Russia.

The tragedy in the Winter Cherry shopping center began at about 5:00 PM on Sunday. The blaze claimed the lives of 64 people, including 41 children, with another 44 injured and as many as 85 people or more are still missing, according to relatives.
