The former abbot of the Pskov Caves Monastery, Archimandrite Tikhon (Sekretarev), reposed in the Lord today following a long illness, reports the monastery’s Russian social media page.

“Archimandrite Tikhon (Sekretarev) returned from Mt. Athos last night, and the Lord called his soul to Himself the same night. Fr. Tikhon labored well on Earth, and now he abides with the Lord. A whole era has passed with Fr. Tikhon,” reads a message in a group for pilgrims to the monastery, reports Interfax-Religion.

Fr. Tikhon was the abbot of the Pskov Caves Monastery from 1995 to 2018. He was released from his duties in July at his own request in connection with his health.

The former abbot (Alexey Nikolaevich Sekretarev) was born on January 24, 1955 into the family of a priest in the Moscow region. He was tonsured as a monk of the Pskov Caves Monastery on August 23, 1976. He fulfilled the obedience of dean of the monastery for about ten years. In 1992, he became a catechist and teacher at the Pskov Spiritual School, and in 1995 he became the abbot.

May his memory be eternal!
