The memory of the great Athonite spiritual father of the 20th century Elder Joseph the Hesychast will be celebrated in the Holy Transfiguration Skete of the of the Holy Trinity-St. Jonas Monastery in the village of Nescherov in the Kiev Province.

Elder Joseph the Hesychast is greatly loved and revered throughout the Orthodox world, though he has not been officially glorified by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which has jurisdiction over Mt. Athos. His disciples are responsible for revitalizing 6 of the 20 ruling monasteries on Mt. Athos.

Since the day of the holy elder’s repose coincides with the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos on August 15/28, and the brothers, who greatly venerate Elder Joseph, would like serve a separate solemn service in his honor, the abbot His Eminence Archbishop Jonah of Obukhov established that the monastery would celebrate the elder’s memory on the Sunday nearest to the feast of the Dormition, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists with reference to the skete’s Facebook page.

The monastery has also been blessed with an icon of Elder Joseph containing a portion of his holy relics.
