Romania; Moldova, April 15, 2019
The entire month of March was dedicated throughout Romania and Moldova to the pro-life causes of fighting against abortion and supporting pregnant women and new mothers, with a large number of youth and young families participating in the various events.
The Romanian Orthodox Church’s Basilica News Agency has published a summary of the month-long event, noting that 667 cities, towns, and villages in total throughout Romania and Moldova participated in the good fight—double the number that participated last year.
The number of participating localities doubled compared to the previous year in 2014, 2015, and 2017 as well, meaning the event is rapidly growing and making an impact in society.
OrthoChristian previously reported on the 1,000-strong procession in honor of the Lord’s Cross and in honor of the Month for Life in the village of Ion Creangă.
During the Month for Life, a new support center for crisis pregnancies was inaugurated in Bacău, Romania. The new social service center was placed under the protection of the Mother of God in conjunction with the feast of the Annunciation of the Most-Holy Theotokos.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania also spoke about the March for Life and the struggle against abortion in his homily for the feast of the Annunciation.
Adolescents, young people, and young families with children accounted for more than 60% of the participants in the pro-life activities. Leaders of important pro-life organizations throughout Europe also participated in the events in Romania, including Paul Ginoux, the co-president of the pro-life association that organizes the March for Life in Paris.
More than 50 children’s reading workshops with pro-life books were organized. Bucharest’s Race for Life had a record number of participants, with more than 400 adults and more than 400 children taking part in the run.
The largest number of participants in the March for Life was recorded in Iași, with 8,000 people showing their belief in the sanctity of life.
