Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan, May 7, 2019
The Orthodox faithful of Pakistan journeyed through Passion Week and joined their brothers and sisters throughout the world in celebrating the great and glorious Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
OrthoChristian previously published a report from Fr. Joseph Farooq on the Paschal celebrations with the communities of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
This year the faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate in Lahore and Islamabad also learned the traditions of holy Orthodoxy during Great Lent and especially in Passion Week. The Sacrament of Confession took place on Holy Wednesday, which helped them to be spiritually prepared for the coming great feast. On Holy Thursday, the Divine Liturgy according to St. Basil the Great was celebrated, calling to remembrance the Last Supper.
On the day of the Resurrection of our Lord, the Paschal services started at midnight in the Lahore parish, ending with the Divine Liturgy. In Islamabad, the faithful also embraced and glorified the Feast of Feasts joyfully.
Fr. Paul Sushil also shared the epistle of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia with the faithful residing in Lahore and Islamabad, translated from Russian into Urdu, the national language of Pakistan.
The Orthodox faithful in Pakistan feel the same joy and happiness of Pascha with one heart and one mind as all their brothers and sisters in the Orthodox world. They not only sang the troparion of Pascha in Slavonic, Greek, and English but also in their native Urdu, proclaiming the triumph of Christ’s Resurrection:
“Masih murdon mei sei jee utha hai, maut pe maut se fatah pai hai, aur jo kabron mei hain unhe zindagi bakhshi hai.”
The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was also recently translated into Urdu by Fr. Paul.
