Zaporozhye, Ukraine, November 15, 2019
His Eminence Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, known as a staunch defender of the faith and the canonical Church, donated a hematology analyzer to the city’s children’s hospital on Monday, November 11.
The donation came as part of the “Love is Merciful” charity social project. The analyzer is worth nearly $7,000 (170,000 hryvnia), which was raised by the local faithful, reports the diocesan website.
His Eminence spoke of the high value of every contribution coming from the heart of every believer: “It’s not just that they give us the opportunity to buy expensive medical equipment, devices, medicines, materials, to help people. All this, of course, is very important. But even more importantly, any, even the smallest smite, is evidence that we all, our human community still has a desire to do good, to help those who are in trouble.”
“Everything in this world has its price, but there is not and cannot be a value in kindness, love, compassion, and mercy, because they can neither be measured nor evaluated, as there is no price for human life, because it is a gift of God. We hope that this device will help doctors quickly and most importantly with a high degree of accuracy to make diagnoses, and thus save many children’s lives, this priceless gift of God,” the hierarch said at the time of the transfer of the equipment.
The head doctor at the hospital warmly thanked Met. Luke and all the faithful of the Zaporozhye Diocese for their constant assistance and fruitful cooperation.
“Thanks to the help of the Church, we have a unique device from the latest generation of devices of this kind, capable of automatically examining blood cells… I would like once again on behalf of our young patients, their parents and all the doctors of our hospital to express deep gratitude and respect to all those who care, who, despite all the difficulties of our current life, continue to help our children,” Dr. Andrei Grigorievich said.
Earlier, the nearby Zaporozhye Diocese held an event for children and faithful called, “We Are the Heirs of the Saints of Zaporozhye,” which encouraged the people to get to know the saints who walked on their lands.
OrthoChristian has presented what is very likely the first English language translation of the lives of those remarkable saints, in the article entitled “Zaporozhye the Unconquered, the Glorious Lives of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Wild Cossack Fields.”
