Another charity project to help the homeless has begun its work, this time in the Dnipropetrovsk Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The “Volunteers” charity project of the Social Department of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Dnipro was launched on Sunday, February 16, reports the diocesan press service.

His Eminence Metropolitan Irenei of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlograd celebrated a moleben for the beginning of any good work in the cathedral’s lower church of St. Nicholas and blessed a microbus especially refurbished to help the city’s homeless.

The bus has been equipped to provide emergency first aid to the homeless, distribute hot food, clothing, and medicines, and deliver humanitarian goods by parishioners of various parishes throughout the diocese who have been providing assistance to those in need for more than a year already.

Doctors on the bus will be able to examine patients, measure their temperature and blood pressure, carry out simple medical procedures, prescribe medicines, and help people be hospitalized if necessary. The volunteers are dedicated to helping anyone in difficult circumstances.

The bus will also provide information about where to find heating points throughout the city and where to get a fresh change of clothes.

Several such buses have been launched on the territory of the Russian Orthodox Church in the past few months, with the most recent in the city of Tomsk.
