The well-known and beloved Moscow cleric Archpriest Alexander Shargunov, 79, is believed to have contracted the coronavirus, his son, author and Duma Deputy Sergei Shargunov, told RIA-Novosti on Tuesday.

Fr. Alexander is rector of St. Nicolas Church in Pyzhi in central Moscow and head of the public committee “For the Moral Rebirth of the Fatherland.”

“There’s a high probability of COVID-19,” said Deputy Shargunov, who noted that his father is in a serious condition.

“I ask all believers to pray for my father, Archpriest Alexander,” he said.

Fr. Alexander is recovering at home, as reported to OrthoChristian from his parish.

He is a prolific author who has contributed hundreds of articles to Pravoslavie.ru, a number of which have been translated for OrthoChristian.com.

The parish deacon, Andrei Demchenko, and two altar servers are also sick.

May the Lord grant Archpriest Alexander, Deacon Andrei, and all who are sick a speedy recovery!
