Romanian Orthodox faithful will soon be able to attend Church services again, praying on the streets outside the churches.
In a press statement yesterday, President Klaus Iohannis spoke about the easing of measures after the suspension of the state of emergency, including the possibility to attend religious services in the open air under certain conditions beginning Friday, May 15, reports the Basilica News Agency.
“Religious services with believers can be resumed in the first phase in the church yard or in front of the church—on the outside,” Iohannis said. The faithful will have to wear a mask and stand at least 1.5 m apart.
Many people, including celebrities, doctors, and cultural figures have been calling for the relaxation of measures regarding jobs lately, including the president of the Romanian Academy, I. A. Pop, who wrote on Facebook that, “the returns of Romanians to church would also increase the effectiveness of the fight against this terrible plague.”
Meanwhile, restrictions have already been loosened in Lebanon, allowing Christians to attend services on Sundays.
