The Greek Ministers of Defense and Health visited the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church during its session yesterday and today, receiving sizable donations from the hierarchs.

The Holy Synod handed over four thermobinoculars to Defense Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos yesterday, to aid in protecting the Greek-Turkish border after Turkish leaders declared they would open their borders to Greece for undocumented migrants, reports Romfea.

The total cost of equipment transferred to the military is $44,833 (40,000 euros).

Today, Minister of Health Vassilis Kikilias also visited the Synodal session to receive several medical monitors to support ICUs. The equipment is worth $95,275 (85,000 euros), reports Romfea.

The Minister thanked Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and the Church of Greece for the valuable donation, emphasizing that they fought a hard battle to deal with the crisis together.

“We want to express our deep gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government for the timely handling of the pandemic,” His Beatitude responded.

The amount of money donated to the Army is symbolic at best. The Church has vast repositories of wealth, and every year we the people donate to the Church. The Church can easily sponsor the Army with all sorts of essential equipment, freeing up funds for the additional purchase and maintenance of tanks, ships, armored personnel carriers, helicopters, aircraft and vastly more cheaper equipment such as mortars, mines, bombs, antitank and surface to air missiles and most importantly bullets. The war with the provocative genocidal Islamist state of Turkey is inevitable and the more equipment we have to deal with the Turks, the better. The Church, being at the receiving end of Islamic violence, has always historically aided Christian armies and revolutionaries in their struggle against jihad. It is no different today. The Church militant is paramount to the preservation of the Orthodox World and the sooner the Holy Synod opens up serious funds towards the Armed Forces the better.
