Metropolitan Sawa of Poland hospitalized

His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, 82, was hospitalized last week, the chancellery of the Metropolitanate reported on Friday.

The Polish primate is undergoing antibiotic treatment in a hospital in Warsaw for a recurrent bacterial skin infection (erysipelas) that His Beatitude has suffered from for many years.

The chancellery reported to OrthoChristian that His Beatitude is doing well and is expected to return to his duties soon.

Met. Sawa celebrated the 40th anniversary of his episcopal consecration in November last year.

The Bishops’ Council of the Polish Church, involving every hierarch of the Church, gathered in Warsaw on Tuesday, October 29, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, to discuss a number of issues, including the veneration of a group of 30 martyrs. Meeting with His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Poland yesterday, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s representative to international organizations expressed gratitude on behalf of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine and the entire canonical Ukrainian Church for the Polish Church’s firm stance in supporting the suffering Ukrainian Orthodox Christians.
