Bishop of Indonesia consecrated at Moscow’s Donskoy Monastery

Yesterday, September 1, on the feast of the Donskoy Icon of the Mother of God, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Moscow’s Donskoy Monastery, during which Archimandrite Pitirim (Dondenko) was consecrated as Bishop of Jakarta, vicar of the Diocese of Singapore.

The wonderworking Donskoy Icon of the Mother of God, which is housed in the Tretyakov Gallery, was brought to the monastery for the feast, according to established tradition.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by a number of hierarchs, including Metropolitan Sergei of Singapore and Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Paul of Khanty-Manysiysk, who is currently managing the Diocese of the Philippines and Vietnam, and Archbishop Theophan of Korea, and a number of priests and deacons, including Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), the Secretary of the Diocese of Thailand and rector of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Bangkok, reports the Synodal Department for External Church Relations.

The service was also attended by a number of seminarians from Indonesia and the Philippines who are currently studying in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Following the service, Pat. Kirill offered the newly-consecrated Bp. Pitirim a few words of edification for his new ministry and handed him his episcopal staff. Bp. Pitirim then offered the faithful his first archpastoral blessing.

His Holiness also read a prayer before the wonderworking Donskoy Icon and venerated the icon and the relics of St. Tikhon of Moscow that are preserved at the monastery.

At the end of the service, the faithful were all presented with copies of the Donskoy Icon of the Mother of God.
