Sara Nukina is a 16-year-old Japanese convert to holy Orthodoxy in Romania. She is well known to the audience of the Romanian Patriarchate’s Radio Trinitas for her generosity in helping the elderly and the sick, bringing them great joy with her gift of singing.
Two weeks ago, she was diagnosed with an inoperable infiltrative brain stem tumor, requiring the highest-level oncological treatment. Having learned of Sara’s case, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania has donated $2,370 (10,000 lei), reports the Basilica News Agency.
“If she has helped so many people as a volunteer, now it is our turn to help Sara,” the Patriarch told Radio Trinitas.
Last month, the Patriarch donated an icon and $7,000 to a new crisis pregnancy center.
Adriana Ene, a Radio Trinitas host whose show has featured Sara several times, describes the sick girl as, “the wonderful Sara, a fighter who soothed so many children, the elderly, the ill and afflicted with her voice.”
“With her beautiful voice and her gift for story-telling that comforts hearts, Sara Nukina has participated in concerts of the Tronos Choir, visited retirement homes and children oncology hospitals with the Volunteers of the National Cathedral, sang to the destitute, the ill, the needy,” the radio host added.

Sara has already undergone an emergency surgery, and will now have to undergo radiotherapy and oncological treatment, for which the family is still raising funds.
The first stage of treatment alone costs more than $59,000 (50,000 euros).
