New bishop of Minsk to be elevated to rank of Metropolitan on Sunday

On August 25, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to appoint His Grace Bishop Benjamin of Borisov and Marinogorsk as the bishop of Minsk and Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus.

The previous head of the Belarusian Exarchate, His Eminence Metropolitan Pavel, was sent to head the Kuban Metropolis.

On Sunday, September 6, Vladyka Benjamin will be elevated to the rank of Metropolitan, reports the site of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The rite of elevation will be celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ during the Divine Liturgy at Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow.

Bp. Benjamin’s first act as the head of the Belarusian Exarchate was to call on the Belarusian people to pray and fast for peace in Belarus and to offer repentance to the Lord.
