Body of missing Ukrainian abbot found in river

Photo: Facebook Photo: Facebook Archimandrite Seraphim (Dudka), the abbot of the St. John the Theologian Monastery in the village of Kreschatik in the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Province, never returned from a fishing trip on Friday, October 16.

He was reported missing the next day, and after three days of searching, his body was found in the Dniester River, reports the Chernivtsi-Bukovina Diocese.

“The deceased was found drowned in the waters of the Dniester River near the village of Voronovitsa, Kelmenets District, Chernivtsi Province,” the report states.

Archim. Seraphim gave 29 years of his short life to the service of God. He was born on July 4, 1974. He was received into the brotherhood of the Monastery of St. John on December 17, 1991, and on September 16, 2014, he was elected abbot. He was only 46.

The funeral Liturgy and funeral service for Fr. Seraphim will be served at his monastery tomorrow morning.
