The Ukrainian Orthodox Church prayerfully commemorated yesterday the 30th anniversary of the granting of the gramota of His Holiness Patriarch Alexiy II of Moscow and All Russia that bestowed full autonomy and self-governance upon the UOC.

In fulfillment of the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, Divine Liturgies and molebens of thanksgiving were celebrated in churches and monasteries throughout Ukraine, reports Orthodox Life.

During the services, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and the unity of world Orthodoxy, as well as for the cessation of the coronavirus pandemic and for the health of doctors and patients.

The UOC was not able to organize any large-scale events for the anniversary celebrations due to coronavirus-related restrictions in place in Ukraine.

A litany for the repose of the soul of Pat. Alexiy was also prayed during the services. Following the Liturgy, molebens of thanksgiving were celebrated in all the churches and monasteries.

An international academic conference in honor of the anniversary was also held at the Kiev Theological Academy at the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra on Tuesday. The event opened with the reading of remarks from Met. Onuphry. An exhibition dedicated to the anniversary was also opened at the Kiev Theological Seminary and Academy.
