Archbishop Irineos of Crete, 87, was discharged yesterday after nearly two months of treatment at the Neurological Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion.

He returned to the Holy Archdiocese of Crete, where he will continue to receive the appropriate care for full rehabilitation, reports the Archdiocesan press service.

Abp. Irineos was admitted to the ICU on September 27 after experiencing difficulty breathing. On October 6, he was released from the ICU after a week of intubation, and his health has been steadily improving since then.

His Eminence is in a good mood and expressed warm thanks to all the medical staff who helped him and all the hierarchs, clergy, and laity who love, support, and pray for him.

In preparation for the Archbishop’s return, all the clergy and laity working at the Archdiocesan offices were tested for COVID and the premises were fully disinfected. According to doctor’s orders, the Archbishop is not receiving any visitors at this time.
