Florence, Arizona, December 3, 2020
This coming Saturday, the brotherhood and parishioners of St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery in Florence, Arizona, will solemnly commemorate the first anniversary of the repose of Elder Ephraim (Moraitis), the great Athonite elder who founded St. Anthony’s and nearly 20 other monasteries in America and Canada.
The beloved spiritual father of thousands of Orthodox faithful throughout the world reposed in the Lord on December 7 last year. His funeral was served and he was laid to rest at the monastery on December 11.
Read the monastery’s announcement on the upcoming celebration (published by Vima Orthodoxias):
On Saturday, December 5, we will be celebrating with great joy the one-year anniversary of the falling asleep in the Lord of our monastery’s founding father and spiritual guide, Geronda Ephraim of Arizona (he reposed on December 7). Geronda left his holy blessing to us as an inheritance, not only through the fond memories and the miraculous experiences that each of us, his spiritual children, accumulated in obedience to him, but most importantly we found ourselves walking on the spiritual path by following his holy teachings, which are the teachings of the Holy Fathers of the Church.
