Last month, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it was aware that U.S. politicians had pressured hierarchs of the Greek and Cypriot Churches to recognize the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU).
OrthoChristian has written of the U.S’s role in creating and propagandizing the OCU many times, and OCU hierarchs have even openly spoken about it at times. Pro-Constantinople and pro-schismatic hierarchs and media outlets have routinely dismissed such statements and reports as “Russian propaganda.”
However, in a Tweet yesterday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo openly acknowledged the U.S.’s interference in the Ukrainian Church crisis:
Took action on lots of fronts with Russia, including religious freedom. I made sure the U.S. supported international recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, helped the Metropolitan escape Russian influence. #FirstFreedoms pic.twitter.com/PqSktjPnsf

Secretary Pompeo is shown pictured with Epiphany Dumenko, the head of the Ukrainian schismatics. The Tweet is part of a flurry of anti-Russian tweets from the Secretary yesterday.
Unfortunately, there is little hope that the U.S. will cease meddling in Church affairs under Joe Biden, who touts himself as a great friend and supporter of the Patriarchate of Constantinople as the supposed center of Orthodoxy.
In November, Patriarch Bartholomew expressed his elation at the Biden’s apparent victory in the presidential elections, and in response, Biden wrote that he looks forward to cooperating with the Patriarch. The international community “needs your leadership,” he wrote to the Constantinople primate.
