Of the roughly 100 churches in the city of Madrid, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene has been recognized as one of the most beautiful.

A list of the city’s 6 most beautiful churches has been compiled by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the most-quoted Spanish-language media in the world. The Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene of the Russian Church’s Diocese of Spain and Portugal is the only non-Catholic church to make the list.

“The five golden domes crowning the Russian Orthodox church attract the attention of anyone walking along Gran Via de Ortaleza. The modern white building in a neo-Byzantine style was built in 2013, adjacent to the Casa Rusia residential building and cultural center. Orthodox services are celebrated in the church. There are also guided tours on Saturdays at 5:00 PM,” writes El Mundo.

The list also includes the 18th-century royal Basilica of San Francisco El Grande, the 14th-century Monastery of San Jeronimo El Real, the 17th-century Church of San Gines, the 17th-century Church of San Antonio de Los Alemanes, and the 18th-century church-museum of San Antonio de la Florida.
