The faithful and donors of St. Athanasius Church in Varna, Bulgaria have been showing Christ-like love and taking care of needy families in their community for years.

The work began with 20 socially disadvantaged families in the Black Sea port city and has now grown to 55 families. The parish regularly provides the families with both food and love, reports bntnews.bg.

One of the volunteers, who has been helping with the program for years, Krassimira Kurteva, also works in social assistance. “Maybe my work has influenced me, and so has faith in God! Let’s help our neighbors as much as we can. Financial aid is not always the main thing. Sometimes it’s a good word,” she commented.

The recipients of the parish’s good work include the elderly, the lonely, and families with many children who find it difficult to get by every day.
