At the end of last year, the diocesan Department of Christian Education, together with the Giolas Foundation in Chicago, announced its initiative to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for 2,000 students.

Each set includes a back pack, notebook, folders, pens, pencils, an eraser, pencil sharpener, ruler, scissors, crayons, color pencils, a calculator, notebook paper, a binder, and a cross with a small prayer card.

The Department initially hoped to gather the necessary supplies by the end of December, but the collection continues. According to the current inventory list, less than half of the supplies have been paid for so far.

Donation information and the current inventory needs can be found at the site of the Diocese of Eastern America.
