With the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the rise, a number of Orthodox lawyers have decided to band together to protect the suffering faithful, clergy, and parishes.

The decision to create and register the Union of Orthodox Lawyers was made at the most recent congress of the Kiev Brotherhood of the Holy Prince Vladimir, the Union reports on its newly-created Telegram channel.

The Brotherhood was founded in 2015 with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.

Having discussed the situation surrounding the illegal seizure and re-registration of UOC parishes to the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU) the seizure of priests’ houses, and other lawlessness, by the violent terrorists of Patriarch Bartholomew’s OCU, the Brotherhood resolved to create the open all-Ukrainian Union of Orthodox Lawyers, which is dedicated to helping the persecuted communities and priest families.

“A human rights organization has been registered and started its work. The purpose of the creation is to protect the legitimate interests of the UOC communities, their property and participants. The organizers hope to unite all interested lawyers from Kiev and other regions of Ukraine,” the Union reports.

The violence and persecution against the canonical UOC are on the rise and expected to get worse in the months leading up to Pat. Bartholomew’s visit to Ukraine in the summer. Last year, the Patriarch irresponsibly declared—and the schismatic “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko parroted him—that there will come a time when Met. Onuphry and the millions of faithful of the UOC will no longer be tolerated in their own country.

Met. Onuphry has called on his clergy to arm themselves with prayer in preparation for the visit of Pat. Bartholomew, who comes not to give, but to take from Ukraine.
