With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Theodosy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, the community of monastic sisters settled in the village of Melniki, where they lead a solitary life of prayer, working on a small subsidiary farm as they develop their church and build their monastic cells, reports the Cherkasy Diocese.

Nun Hierotheia (Shtefura) was appointed the senior sister of the community by Abp. Theodosy.

“If the Lord blesses this initiative, and the sisterhood expands and strengthens spiritually, then the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will receive a petition from the administrator of the Cherkasy diocese, Abp. Theodosy, for the blessing and establishment of a full-fledged convent on the basis of the sisterhood,” the diocese reports.

There are currently five convents and three men’s monasteries in the Diocese of Cherkasy, with 218 inhabitants, 141 of whom are tonsured monastics.
