Fr. Haralambie Balamace was killed on Pascha night in Albania in 1914 for serving in the Romanian language.

Next month, a statue will be unveiled in his honor in Korçë, where he was martyred, reports the Basilica News Agency.

About 1,000 Romanians from the Balkans, including teachers, professors, priests, and even ordinary students met a similar fate, according to the Romanian Church outlet, “because they defended the Romanian identity and served the communities they belonged to in the Romanian language/Aromanian dialect/Megleno-Romanian dialect.”

Fr. Haralambie played a very important role in the development of Romanian-language education among the Macedo-Romanians in Epirus and Albania and for the Church emancipation of the Romanians in the Balkans. In 1972, he was declared a hero of the Albanian nation.

The bronze bust of him was made with the participation of the Nicolae Iorga foundation from Saranda, Albania, which approved all the necessary permits for the location of the statue.

The official opening will be attended by representatives of Romanians/Aromanians from the region, local and Bucharest officials, and clergy.

It's very bad that you are keeping out of the story the Greek person who killed him. You should add that in the article so people don't get confused thinking he was killed by Albanians.

I think that "immortalized with a statue" is the wrong choice of words. Immortality is achieved by union with Christ, although a statue is one way to commemorate a holy man.
