Priest who recently returned from schism reposes in the Lord

Kazatin, Ukraine, May 28, 2021

On Wednesday, following a long illness, Archpriest Romana Asaphov of the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Kazatin in the Vinnitsa Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reposed in the Lord at the age of 41, the diocese reports.

In March 2019, Fr. Roman, who was ordained to the priesthood in 2005, succumbed to pressure and left the canonical Ukrainian Church to join the nationalist schismatics. However, the Lord blessed him to repent not long before his repose.

In February of last year, after just a year in the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s “Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” Fr. Roman offered sincere repentance for the sin of schism and returned to the Vinnitsa Diocese of the canonical Ukrainian Church.

His Eminence Metropolitan Barsanuphius of Vinnitsa expressed his condolences to Fr. Roman’s wife Matushka Natalia, children, and parishioners on the repose of the beloved Fr. Roman.

The funeral and burial were served at the Church of St. Seraphim yesterday.

In February last year, Archpriest Stephen Sinyuk, also of the Vinnitsa Diocese, also reposed in the Lord, just months after returning to the Church from the schismatic OCU.
